Controls and processes for the production of moulded rubber products

The purpose of this paper is to discuss possibilities to produce moulded rubber products with consistent quality and fast cycle times.
Various aspects of quality related machine components are discussed with special attention paid to plastification and injection of rubber and infiuences of temperature of the stock and injection pressure related to article quality and cycle time.
Microprocessor controls allow the use of software to detect batch-to-batch vicosity variations and setting tolerance bands to important parameters. The cure time regulation oonsiders material and processing temperatures, temperature build up during injection and batch-to-batch material/cure characteristic deviation. Software is available for recording of process parameters and statistical analysizes of the process.
Conclusion: With modem equipment quality is increased and cycle times are reduced resulting in reduced reject rates and improved efficiency.
